I want a website and my own domain name but the problem is, I don%26#039;t know where to get it! I know there are cheap ones but I%26#039;m worried about it having a virus! Does anyone know any website that%26#039;s cheap that gives me my own website and domain name, professionally and WITHOUT a virus? Thanks!

You%26#039;ll also need hosting space to go along with that domain name? That%26#039;s where they get ya. You can register a domain name for $5-$20 per year (depending on who you go through), but just having the domain name doesn%26#039;t do you squat. Then you need some web space to point to that domain name and companies like to charge anywhere from $5-$60 / month for that.
I%26#039;m not sure why you think you would get a virus signing up for internet hosting space and / or a domain name? I use HostMonster. They have super fast servers, cheap prices, and EXCELLENT customer service. Heck, you can borrow some of my space if ya want... just register your domain name. I%26#039;m only using like 50 Mb out of around 300 Gb I think.
P.S. - Domain forwarding w/ masking sucks. It uses frames and so your web site doesn%26#039;t get indexed by the search engine spiders, so it never shows up in the search results.
P.P.S. - Regular plain domain forwarding (without masking) also sucks since you paid to have your domain name (www.shortname.com) but once a user types that in, they get redirected to www.sharetheweb/user334/mywebshome/index... and every link they click on your site from that point forward will also have the long web address, so its kinda dumb.

If you are new to building websites, try building it using their free stuff and then if you need to go bigger, fork over the cash for the domain name and more storage/bandwidth/etc.

And if you use the Netscape browser, the built-in Composer feature is a superior HTML authoring tool. You can easily generate a full-blown website as a Homepage.
Nevertheless, the %26quot;homepage%26quot; URL is likely to be %26quot;http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscribe... name%26quot; and that URL can easily be overwritten via a redirection service, i.e., %26quot;mydomain.com%26quot; which allows you to link any registered domain name to %26quot;mask%26quot; another website. For example, should you type in the %26quot;domain name,%26quot; you will be immediately transported to the homepage and the hompage URL of http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber... a homepage URL which will be masked by the domain name. And the charge for the redirection service [even at godaddy.com] is normally FREE.
Here%26#039;s a demonstration: Type in the URL window: %26quot;www.pizzanextdoor.com%26quot; which will bring up their pizza website. Take note of the domain name. Then type in the URL window: %26quot;http://home.pacbell.net/vten/1a/pizzame... and you will see that this is the original homepage which is unmasked without the domain name.

Other Replys:First question: What do you want a website for? If it%26#039;s for profit, then I don%26#039;t recommend anything cheap. Have at least $400 for starting your website (hosting/domain/design/script).
Obviously if your website is for leisure anything will do. Heck I recommend a blog in that case.
Godaddy is a good option if you really don%26#039;t want to spend more than $50 or so. Just remember that you get what you pay for...
Don%26#039;t worry about your site having a virus. It might get hacked, but that%26#039;s totally different. So long it%26#039;s hosted in a good place like Godaddy and you make weekly back-ups you shouldn%26#039;t have a problem.
