Why do Yahoo! Groups discourage a new, relevant open source offering?

I%26#039;m trying to promote a new open source offering- a soapmaking wiki that is like wikipedia- and I post to the group. My message is of the %26#039;please contribute your time and knowledge to the site%26#039; nature.

Now, the moderators take it as an ad and won%26#039;t post it. It IS an ad but it IS non-commercial and it serves only to help their group or business- the site provides a means of cross-promotion with a company and organization directory. Also, people are on those Yahoo groups TO list their services, in other words, commercialism and talk are inherently associated in this domain. Cottage businesses where ladies exchange and talk about recipes and where to buy cheap materials. That being said, it%26#039;s as if my offering is rejected on the basis that %26#039;I don%26#039;t know you%26#039;, or that I am a male. I%26#039;m facing the girls club and I%26#039;m just an outsider.

Am I totally off mark? I don%26#039;t think my invitation should be lumped in the same category with viagra and hot teen action.

Ads are ad%26#039;s. Rules are rules. A company the size of yahoo has to apply the rule equally to all for the benefit of all. There is no discrimination.

cause moderators are snobs. dont take it personally, most people suck. forget that group and do your own thing.

Other Replys:%26gt;The powers-that-be at Yahoo! have be assimilated by Billgatus of Borg.%26lt;

Other Replys:You are confusing Yahoo employees with volunteer moderators of a certain Group.

Yahoo does not concern itself with your posting - it is the moderators of that Group who make the decision. Are you sure your posting is on topic in the Group where your are trying to promote your wiki? have you checked to see if your comply with the Group%26#039;s rules? Some moderators view any kind of promotion, even of other relevant Yahoo Groups as taboo - don%26#039;t ask me why.

You have 2 options now:

- Move on to another, more tolerant Yahoo Group

- Try to contact the Group moderators privately to find out why your message is objectionable to them
