Starting freelance web design?

I plan to start doing web design business soon . My experience in this field is beginner to intermediate at the most. I was wondering how I can get customers? I plan to use craiglist to advertise myself soon. If anyone knows a better way to advertise myself please tell me. Since my skills are at the lower end, I will charge less compared to those more skilled counterparts. Of course no server side programmings involved. I also plan to charge my clients by custom template designs and pages. However, I have looked to other people%26#039;s questions on this topic, and many have answered saying that freelance web designers should be paid by hours. I don%26#039;t know how thats possible considering I%26#039;m doing this business over the internet. If anyone can answer this, please enlighten me. Also, Is paypal a fine way to get paid? I don%26#039;t want customers to reverse payment or whatsoever after receivng their website. How do you prevent this problem? Any links on how to start this busines would be appreciated.

It would be better if you just register at freelance website like http://getafreelnacer.com/ and bid for all web designing projects.

Other Replys:I have a great idea...like the one that said getafreelancer.com...great idea...read my squidoo lens for info...

Other Replys:How do you get started in the field? The most common way is by creating a site or sites for yourself, volunteering to make sites for others, and then eventually finding someone who will pay you to make their site.find more information following link.

Other Replys:I would charge a flat fee for my services broken down as follows: cost of design (artwork); estimated cost of production (includes coding).

Collect 30 percent up front, 30 percent UPON ACCEPTANCE OF DESIGN and remaining balance upon project completion. Always, ALWAYS, get a signed contract and NEVER start anything until you get that first deposit.

Incidentally, getting the deposit should by via a check sent either by FedEx (preferably) or via surface mail (which you will advise takes longer).

You should consider incorporating your business. File for incorporation as an LLC (Limited Liability Company). Then open a business checking account. Bank of America has several good ones (one even pays interest).
