I want to start a website.. what's the best way?

I want to start a fun for me based website. I am experienced in HTML and web designing.. but I%26#039;ve never had a website before?

I just need help with a lot of this stuff. First off, I want a domain name. I have my domain name in my head and it seems to not be taken. Where is the cheapest and best place to buy/register a domain name?

Where do I put the HTML to design the website.. do I need a certain program or do I need to go on a certain website for this?

Which one is the best? Do I need to transfer a different website on to my domain name? If so, how?

Lay down the basics and any tips for me, please. :)

Other Replys:try godaddy.com to get a domain name and a server to host it. Have you used dreamweaver or frontpage for web design? there are also CMS like joomla and phpcow. This is one way. Hope this helps!

i%26#039;d register the domain name at godaddy

i have several websites i register most of my domain names at godaddy and then one at a web host like 1and1 and then forward the domains from godaddy to my 1and1 site

because its hard to transfer names away from them but there cheap.

i%26#039;ll give you an example

say i have example.com registered from godaddy i forward the domain to example.co.uk i desgin everything for the example.co.uk site but if i go to example.com it takes me right to example.co.uk

you need to have a domain hosting package to put the html somewhere the cheapest you can get them is like 4.99 per month or maybe cheaper depend on the company

alot of design softwares come with a ftp program that lets you upload the site to the hosting companies server%26#039;s but if they dont you need to buy a ftp program they cost about 30 dollars or you can sometimes find a less featured version for free

you will upload everything that needs to be on the site through the ftp program and it will appear on the site.
