For a business, I would recommend that you buy a .com domain name and a hosting package. If you want to look professional, you just can%26#039;t accomplish that using a domain redirection or a freeserver. Like you said, you will have costs ANYWAY if you have a business, and I would spring for a domain/hosting if I was in your position. I honestly would be a bit cautious if you have a .tk domain rather than a .com domain. I honestly wouldn%26#039;t consider using your business.

Never under any circumstances use a free web site. It all contains advertising and basically looks cheap. On yahoo you can get a domain for $1.99. It cost under $10.00 a month for hosting. You want to buy a domain name? None of them are ad supported by you can buy them cheap from godaddy.com for example. Or if your in the uk buy a .co.uk domain name for only 鎷? for 2 years from 1and1.co.uk

Once you have your domain name, you need to get domain hosting. I would reccomend the FREE hosting at freehostia.com there are no ads and its totally free, so the only thing you are paying for is your Domain name which will probably be about $10 a month or less!

If you are in the UK, then UK Reg (part of Fasthosts) is quite cheap, and won%26#039;t increase the payment in 2 years time to renew. They also don%26#039;t charge to transfer domains away, and their system is pretty reliable.

Don%26#039;t think much of their hosting, but for domains they are really good!

If your after a .co.uk its 鎷?.70 for 2 years including VAT, its about 鎷?.80 for a com for 1 year.

The cheapest way to build your site would be to learn HTML yourself then build the site. It%26#039;s not very complicated and you could design your site just as you want it, without the limitations and the templates of a site-builder program.

If you still don%26#039;t want to learn HTML, try to use %26quot;Microsoft Word%26quot;: it does a pretty nice job building sites without needing you to know HTML.

There can be a lot of money in it but its a hard industry as you need to know what you are doing or have the money or a partner who knows both the marketing side of the business and the tech side. It can also be worthwhile if you are a designer and just have clients you want to host their sites for a nice stream of recurring revenue.

I started a small hosting company during college and loved it but as time went on it was hard being a one man show. Especially if there is a server problem and you are trying to get your customers sites up as quick as possible. I eventually sold it to a bigger host because of reasons like that but it helped pay for my college.

btw, profit margins get better if you get your own server and the more domains you have for a domain reseller.

You can use a thing called Content Mangager System(CMS) for your site. Most CMS%26#039;s use Mysql and PHP so your web host will have to support PHP and Mysql before you can use one.

My site http://chaoticpulse.com uses Joomla a free CMS. There are other such as phpNuke, Droopla, Mambo, etc each with it%26#039;s own layout. You can even download themes to change the layouts for popular ones like phpNuke and Joomla.

A content mangager is a great solution to your problem because you don%26#039;t need to know how to build websites in order to use it and updating is a snap too. Best part is there are free CMS%26#039;s so you don%26#039;t have to speed thousands to some web developer build you one.

2. Put the CMS onto your web site. If you have Linux hosting, look for Joomla. If you have Windows hosting, look for DotNetNuke. How to do this depends on the host. Some have a control panel where you can install them easily. Even if not, the host will probably be able to help with this. Look at their support website.

3. Start creating the web site. The CMS will have instructions on how to log in with the administrator account and set up pages. There should also be instructions on how to change the looks of the site.

Buy a template for cheap and get Dreamweaver and Photoshop to put it up, and customize it. There are easy books to read on those programs. To animate everything you needs Flash. When you say cheap web site and include the words with a shopping cart, you just made a more expensive web site.

You%26#039;ll need a very good host that allows all the needed scripting languages and multiple databases. You should have one that allows lots of space and plenty of bandwidth. Their uptime should be almost perfect.

Most good providers have good Control panels like VDeck or CPanel X. Support should be very good. You may find a hosting site that provides legacy eCommerce installs from the Control Panel including PayPal and Google AdWords setups.

I would look around on the Internet and look for a good eCommerce software product. These aren%26#039;t cheap. Possibly a basic Content management System (CMS).

I don%26#039;t recommend a flashy site with all the bells and whistle. One that would be search engine friendly is better than one that is made out of Flash.

You also have to think about maintaining the site. You might want to learn HTML, CSS, MySQL (database) and PHP or ASP unless you get the software system that will get you through it.

Sadly, if you already have the computer (you are not ordering it now), you cannot downgrade. The %26quot;Anytime Upgrade%26quot; cost to Ultimate is fixed by Microsoft. However, depending on where you got you machine, the manfacturer may be able to assist you with a discount copy of XP Pro. In the worst case you could return the machine if you are still within the window.

I am putting off the purchase of a new one for at least a year to give Microsoft time to sort out the problems of the new operating system, or give up and revert to an upgraded XP.

In a nutshell, you%26#039;re going to get what you pay for, for the most part. Don%26#039;t go for the cheapest. When you have customers that you%26#039;re hosting and they have problems, since you have to go to folks you%26#039;re reselling for, you need quick turn around on things you can%26#039;t support. Like server or account problems.

I recommend you get a quality host with good support and this will pay larger dividends in the happy customers and word of mouth referrals.

I use a place called etwebhosting.com and they return all of my support inquiries within 5 minutes. The owner of the company is a customer service maniac. They cost a bit more but the reliability, quick responses, and sheer uptime is worth paying a bit more.

I have been trying to create a good standalone blog with its own domain for cheap. I JUST DONT GET IT. I barely have any experience with making websites/blogs or using html or anything. Its a great start to start with. theres only like 5 -7 parts to the tutorials I think and they%26#039;re only like around 5 min a piece. They%26#039;re quick and they dont talk a lot, more like show but they do eplain things to you. the pace is fast so you%26#039;re never board and it explains everything you need to know. As far as a host goes I suggest you use one of the following:

Each has their limitations but all of them are free services. Geocities is great for like single web pages that dont have a lot of content. Maybe for posting a resume or something but the bandwidth allotment is horrible. Bandwidth allotment or data transfer rate which host call it is basically how many people can access your pages at teh same time before it crashes. Geocites gives you a really short amount which means if you have a hand full of people viewing your site everyday it will crash everytime.

Tripod is in my opinion horrible but it does the trick. Its so horrible because the ads completely over rule your design and you aren%26#039;t allowed to change them. The ads are google ads adn they completely rule your page. they look like newspaper clippings honestly which is so unattractive.

Bravenet.com is a whole lot better. They have ads but they are a bit more consipcuous and you get way more bandwitdth and server spaces for pics and even vids.

The best by far for free hosting in my opinion is freespaces.com . Freespaces has ads but they are so inconspicuous you dont notice. also your ads are in a div format which means they pop up in teh top without pushing your page down or altering it at all plus the ad has a %26quot;x%26quot; button to close. Best of all the ad only appears on the 1st page (index) of your site. It competely leaves the rest alone which is so great. These are a great idea for learning about design, or even for a vanity email (you@whateveryouwant.com) without the monthly fees. You do still have to purchase the domain name, but honestly the prices for .coms etc have fallen so drastically since I began, it%26#039;s really not a big expense. Godaddy and many others often have specials where you can get a name for around $7 a year! Many of these however will want you to register with them. Since that%26#039;s their only way of making money, that%26#039;s more than fair :)

I have 2 small business websites at the moment...I pay $30 a year for each. They both started out with 50MB storage %26amp; 1000MB transfer. On one of them, I bought 50MB more storage. Domain was/is free.

However, I am constantly having problems with them. The websites will go down during peak hours for no reason, mail service is sporadic, I have deleted 3/4 of my website because they say I keep going over my limit...this is on the 100MB one.

I feel like I should look for a new one, but I really can%26#039;t spend much more than $60 total a year for the two together. I know you can get multiple domains now under some hosting plans, but by the time you pay for the extra domains, it%26#039;s not cheap anymore.

Where can I find something reasonable? Having all the bells %26amp; whistles is not a priority, but would be nice.

So, if there%26#039;s enough space on that one account, you should only have to pay $36/year or $54 if you register for two years.

You should really pay no more than $20 for a good design.

if you are using windows server you can enable the smtp server... in xp i%26#039;m not sure.... then you will need to create an MX (Mail Exchanger) record in a world dns server (that%26#039;s why you maybe need a domain) that if you want to receive mail from outside your network, if that%26#039;s not the case just using telnet on port 25 or some other app you will do fine to send mail.. from ant to your network

I use Host Gator for my hosting. I would like a Domain service which hides all my personal details as well as the host of the domain (Host Gator).

I know I can use Name Cheap which has Whois Guard which allows you to enter your own Name Servers which show as ns1.sitename.com instead of ns1.hostgator.com but if you do a search for my domain on Who-Hosts.com you%26#039;ll still see that Host Gator is the host.

So is there any service which will NOT display my host in Who-Hosts.com or similar services like it?
